What can we do?

Sometimes, when we think about the overwhelming statistics of global poverty, it can be easy to get discouraged. What can just a few people from Ohio do to make a difference?

This post from One Day's Wages (an awesome non-profit group) helps to show the difference we can make. Here are some statistics to raise hope:

  • $20 provides one person clean water for 20 years.

  • $10 can purchase a bed net to help prevent malaria.

  • $45 can pay the annual school tuition for one child in numerous parts of the world.

  • $100 can provide a woman with a sewing machine, training, a goat, and a fresh start kit.

  • There is a story about Mother Teresa in which someone challenged her by saying, "You can't save all the sick and dying." She responded, "You are right, but I can save this one." And she proceeded to carry the leper back to the infirmary.

We can't solve world hunger. We can't eliminate poverty tomorrow. But we can touch one life. We can build one house. We can sing one song. We can hold one child. And that one person will make a difference.

YOU ARE ONE PERSON; AND YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
